I'm a few days late joining in this one but I really wanted to share my wedding pictures with you all.
Well what a hard act to follow that lovely photo is, on Sepia Saturday this week.
My contribution may not be as stylish and fun as that but these photos are very special to me. This is my parents wedding day, 4th August 1953.

Check out the grand cake they had but dont be fooled as it was just a fake shell. there was one small sponge cake underneath the final bottom tier and that apparently was dry!
Such were the times back then.
Their marriage lasted for 18 years until my dad sadly died at the very young age of 47. My mum never married again or even had anything to do with another man.

Thanks for sharing. I love the detailing on your mother's dress. Beautiful flowers, too!
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy, thanks for stopping by, commenting and following my blog. The flowers were peachy yellow roses.
DeleteI never heard of a fake cake. Actually, that's not a bad idea! "Rent-a-Cake." Your mother's flowers are beautiful -- I love those huge bouquets of times past.
ReplyDeleteHi Wendy, I reckon you could have something there. The flowers were peachy yellow roses and after my father died she tried to get a rose tree for him in the exact same colour but could never find one the same.
DeleteThanks for stopping by and commenting.
They did make a very lovely couple! What a wonderful dress she wore as well, they looked very happy, even if the part of the cake they could eat was dry! It looks as though they had a splendid wedding!
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen, i wish i could say it was but of course i wasnt there lol
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting and leaving me a comment.
They made a lovely couple! Your mom's dress is beautiful and I love her bouquet.
ReplyDeletethank you Kathy x
ReplyDeleteThanks for showing us these lovely pictures, Your Mum's gown and headdress are beautiful. How sad that they didn't have more years together.
ReplyDeletethanks for visiting, yes the dress looks beautiful dosent it, i love the row of buttons on the wrist. So delicate and dainty.
ReplyDeleteYour mother's headdress is lovely and unusual - rather Russian in style. I had heard of fake cakes during the war, but was surpried that this was still the case in 1953. It so sad your parents did not have more time together and I can understand why these photographs are so special for you.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue, thanks for visiting. ive had such wonderful comments on her dress, i guess when youve seen the picture for years you tend not to notice anymore.
ReplyDeleteMay I should have done a fake cake... it was soo hot the day we were married that the cake was tilting to one side - We had to hurry to cut and serve it. :-)
ReplyDeleteNice photos.
Regards,
Theresa (Tangled Trees)
Oh goodness i bet that added to the stress on the day. Thanks for visiting Theresa
